Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
With President Trump signing a suite of executive orders overturning DEI programmes in the US federal government and numerous companies in the US scaling back their programmes, potentially influencing workplace practices and employment laws in Canada and elsewhere, this edition we focus on DEI news. Some firms in Canada and the UK though are refusing to scrap DEI rules splitting with their US offices, and are looking for a middle ground. We include some articles assessing the Cost of DEI and Retention in Canada and the UK – the financial impact of turnover due to lack of DEI; millennials and Gen Z demanding inclusive Workplaces; the Business Case for and strategies to enhance DEI. As we approach International Women’s Day in early March, our DEI Forum is holding a breakfast panel debate entitled ‘Diversity and Inclusion: Time for a reset?’ at the In & Out Club. All are welcome -see below for more details.
This week we held a joint reception with the High Commission and Dadco Group in honour of Chamber Past President and current Vice President Rob Brant who is returning to Canada after 27 years in London. Rob has been a very special supporter of not only the Chamber during his time in the UK but many other organisations such as the Maple Leaf Trust, the Terry Fox Run in the UK, and the annual Canadian Indigenous Investment Summit. He will be greatly missed by all, and we are forever grateful to him for his generous time devoted to Canada-UK relations. We are hoping he will pay future visits to London and continue to be a Chamber champion from Ontario!
Earlier this month we held our 2nd Member Networking Evening at Gerry's Hot Subs in Exmouth Market, and it was great to see so many of you there, enjoy the Canadian food and beverages.
