Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Mark Carney and Keir Starmer met yesterday at the beginning of the G7 Summit at Evian, France. The pair discussed the future of financing defence, which is particularly important in the current geopolitical climate. We look forward to hearing more about the Canada-UK partnership as the summit continues. Learn more here.
This edition our focus is on International Trade. With news of a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran influencing global oil prices, over the weekend, CUSMA negotiations ongoing, and the World Cup now underway, international trade remains central to bilateral engagement. The Canada–UK relationship continues to be strengthened, highlighted this week by Ontario securing a critical mineral agreement with the United Kingdom to reinforce allied supply chains. This comes at the same time as Canada completed the UK's ratification for joining the CPTPP in May. This will reshape trade relations as it will provide preferential tariff rates and offer investment protections to companies operating in both countries. In a period of global uncertainty, strong and reliable partnerships matter more than ever. Read more below.
Canada and the United Kingdom’s historic relationship was further highlighted this month as Louise Arbour was sworn in as Canada’s 31st Governor General, the federal representative of the Canadian monarch. Read more here.
Finally, the biggest shared moment on the world stage for Canada and the UK is undoubtedly the World Cup in Canada, the US and Mexico. The tournament has begun positively for both countries, with Canada drawing 1–1 against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Scotland securing a 1–0 win over Haiti. England will kick off their campaign against Croatia on Wednesday evening.

Networking tips: We are often looking at corporate About Us pages on websites. So many are hard to decipher using long-winded jargon... We suggest writing the page as if you're speaking to someone you know. And when networking at events ask yourself: ‘Can you state who you are, what you do, and what value you bring in half a minute?’
Happy networking. Thank you for your continued support. We are here to assist with events ideas, introductions and referrals.
